Celebrating 10 Years of SAFVA
This year marks the 10th Anniversary of the Sabah Film and Visual Association (SAFVA). Over the past decade, SAFVA has been dedicated to empowering Sabah’s film and creative industry by supporting filmmakers, nurturing emerging talents, fostering collaborations, and promoting local stories on both national and international platforms. As we celebrate this milestone, we reaffirm our commitment to inspiring the next generation of storytellers and strengthening Sabah’s presence in the global creative industry.
ASPRESIASI FILEM SABAH (AFiS) 2026
Aspresiasi Filem Sabah (AFiS) is a celebration of Sabah's growing film industry, bringing together filmmakers, industry professionals, and film enthusiasts to showcase and appreciate local cinematic works. The event serves as a platform to promote Sabah-made films and strengthen collaboration within the creative industry.
ASPRESIASI FILEM SABAH (AFiS) 2026
The 2026 edition featured special screenings of five Sabah-produced films: The Sight of Borneo Kirin, Craze Below the Wind, Ninavau, Silence of the 177, and Mantera. Held at City Cineplex, City Mall, Kota Kinabalu, AFiS 2026 successfully highlighted the creativity, cultural diversity, and storytelling excellence of Sabah’s filmmakers.
In addition to the film screenings, AFiS 2026 hosted a series of Sharing Sessions, where filmmakers, directors, producers, and industry professionals shared their experiences, creative journeys, and insights into filmmaking, inspiring aspiring talents while encouraging meaningful discussions and knowledge exchange within Sabah’s creative community.
The event also featured a Film Poster Exhibition, showcasing promotional artwork from Sabah-produced films. The exhibition celebrated the visual identity and marketing creativity behind local productions while offering visitors a closer look at the diversity of stories and cinematic achievements from the state.
A major highlight of the celebration was the 4th Golden Wind Award (GoWA), which honoured outstanding achievements in Sabah’s film industry by recognising excellence in filmmaking, storytelling, technical craftsmanship, and creative innovation. The awards celebrated the dedication and contributions of filmmakers who continue to elevate Sabah’s presence in the Malaysian and international film landscape.

SAFVA Proud to Represent Sabah at Hong Kong FILMART 2025
Hong Kong, 17–20 March 2025 – The Sabah Film and Visual Arts Association (SAFVA) is proud to be part of the prestigious Hong Kong International Film & TV Market (FILMART) 2025, alongside key industry players such as SCENIC (Sabah Creative Economy and Innovation Centre), FINAS, Iskandar Malaysia Studios, Skop Production, and many more.
This global platform brings together some of the biggest names in the content industry, and SAFVA is honoured to showcase Sabahan films and documentaries under the Malaysia Pavilion, highlighting the vibrant storytelling and cinematic potential of Borneo.
For SCENIC, this has been an eye-opening experience—witnessing the sheer scale of the event, understanding the revenue models, and realising the enormous potential for film extension through merchandising, co-productions, and regional investment.
Together, we continue to grow Sabah’s presence in the global creative industry.
